There are some roads that I always want to avoid, either because there are known speed traps on them, construction is being done, etc... This idea is for a simple enhancement to either Mapquest or Google maps that would let you key in roads you want to avoid and then have it build the best route to
your destination that skipped them. GPS Doesn't Help

MS Streets and Trips will let you do this to some degree. You can avoid classes of roads (freeways, limited access, arterials, etc) but not individual streets. Good idea. |

Which reminds of my own map-related idea, which I guess I'd better post before I forget it again. One of the two would be very helpful for me - last time I looked, every map service gave me the most bizarre route for getting out to Long Island. |

I would love the option to avoid the red light districts and the high crime areas. Mapquest does not tell you if you are going into an area where you might be mugged, shot, or worse. Also I could see its usefulness if you want to avoid street beggars and guys who wash your windshield only to make it dirtier. |

This would be invaluable. I'm surprised it's not already a feature on GPS and other navigation products. |

According to a letter in this week's Computing magazine (not in the online version), MapPoint gave directions from Rotterdam to Amsterdam via Goole, Doncaster, Ilkeston, Luton, Brentwood, Dover, Calais and Antwerp. Perhaps "avoiding England" would have been a good option. |

"Avoiding England" - You could put that on my tombstone. |

I went ahead and submitted this idea to Google Maps this morning. It'll be interesting to see if they add the feature. |

Perfect for avoiding that street with the mental hospital on one side and the prison on the other. |
