Pondering, recently, on the enmity large SUVs have begun to attract, I realised there's a perfect solution to the problem of inappropriate vehicles, in certain circumstances.
ZAI (Zanzibar Automotive Industries) is soon to bring the MatroyshCar to the market.
Similar to the design of the famous
Russian dolls, this car is a large SUV, with flat floors and popup seating, around a medium-sized SUV, with flat floors and popup seating, around a compact 4-seater convertible, with flat floors and popup seating, around a Smart city car-sized commuter car.
If you're commuting to work, take the Smart.
If you're headed to the beach for the day, take the convertible.
If you're off to do your monthly grocery shopping, take the little SUV.
If you have to transport both of your childrens' soccer teams to the game, take the big one.
If you're off on a month long road trip, load the lot up.
ZAI will share many components across platforms, and is looking at ways of splitting the engine into a V8 / 6 / 4 / 2 configuration, to keep manufacturing costs low.
Buy this month and we'll throw in a pair of 134mpg, single cylinder mopeds, for free.

Should I vote no for the fact that you can't fit a mid sized suv inside a large one, no matter how large/ small the suv's are? |

You could, if it was built the right way. We decided it was impossible with existing cars, so we designed our own. |

I just like the idea of having a vehicle for all occasions. We can do it with clothes. Cars would simply be a matter of engineering. |
|
| |
It would also make a great getaway car. |

GM had a concept vehicle that could just about make this doable, Zanzibar on the engine front i often wondered about linking several V twin motorbike engines to a common crank. |
|
| |
However with a full hybrid vehicle you could do this a lot easier by using electric motors or even hydraulic motors at the wheels rather than solid drive shafts that would be awkward to extend and retract |
|
| |
That's the sort of engine concept I had in mind. |

Enjoyable to imagine, even if it is impossible to implement. Would the drivers get smaller and smaller too? |

Just dug through this one. Irremovable evidence that I was [Zanzibar] for a while. |
|

For how long? And who was Zanzibar while you were he? |
