Walking alone in the dark, listening to an iPod or Walkman is fairly common, but very dangerous. Some people who do this can be seen glancing furtively over their shoulders every so often, to ensure they aren't being followed by a predator.
Inspired by an idea with a phonetically similar name, the
Mature Baking Headphones have a feature that detect certain external noises, such as approaching footsteps, which cause the music being played to be immediately cut off, and the listener be alerted to their surroundings.
The first model may be designed to recognize the steadily increasing volume and rhythm of approaching footsteps. However, later models may be programmed to detect fire alarms, car horns, the voices of loved ones, and the like to improve awareness of surroundings.
