I recently decided that I wanted to give an ex I'd lived with several years ago one last chance to restablish a friendship. I was thinking of a weekend vist once every one or two years, and the opportunity for a couple of bottles of wine with her and two days of dancing, painting and playing about like a bid kid (as an 'honary uncle') with her daughter, the most sweet natured child you could hope to meet

It was a long shot, seeing as she was the one who stopped replying to my emails, but they were both very sweet and I thought it was worth a try. It was nearly 18 months since I'd heard from her, perhaps she had cooled down by now? What did I have to lose except a little pride?

Unfortunately when I phoned nobody was in, or as she often did, she was call screening. So I was met by the answer phone. Not only that, the message hadn't been changed in at least three years and was exactly the same as when we were together. This threw me a bit and I felt a bit nervous and left a crappy message. It wasn't 'mad stalker ex from hell' but I did sound like a bit of a nervous fool.

What i needed was a MESSAGEPHONE. An answerphone that has an extra memory chip to allow you to record your impending message ahead of time, then play it back to make sure it sounds okay.

I could have pre-recorded my message, phoned up, waited for the tone, pressed my message button, and heard a confident, witty and cool me leave a decent message.

thus, the probability of having an oportunity to watch sweet-as-an-angel daughter grow into an adult, and enjoy the occasional evening of good food with her mother over the next couple of decades might have risen from 10% to 25%. If only I'd had a MESSGEPHONE :-(

MESSAGEPHONE could also be used for phoning prospective employers, etc ..

some ansaphones give the opportunity to re-record your message. personally I love nothing better than to listen to somebody squirm and strangle their way through two minutes of unadulterated self-conscious babbling nonsense.

hmm but what if she's only screening, and decides to pick up your call part way through your pre-recorded message?

[po] is right: nervousness is endearing. The fact that you are trying so hard to compose yourself and can't speaks of the importance of the call to you. If you sounded composed and cool, the implication is that this phone call doesn't matter. Still, I like the idea for business calls. +
