Following the doctor's excellent helicopter frivolity, it occurred to me that the line might be extended.

A small, model jet fighter would pump out a substantial amount of heat, keeping rooms warm even in far northern climes.

Warning: Do not mount near drapes, walls, 4 poster beds, unless you live near a fire station.

       Too cold, honey?

Here, let me crank up the afterburners! (WHOOOSH!)

You could build a metal model airplane, and use a miniature version of the propane space heaters used in construction as the jet engines. Earplugs required.

No, it needs to be a real minature axial-flow turbine. Not only would you get the lovely smell of Jet A-1 as a bonus, but the fast moving airstream would distribute the heat to all parts of the room. (+)

You could kind of combine the helicopter fan and the jet heater- A jet teathered to the cieling that flys in a circle, thereby evenly heating the room.

The sonic boom is a surefire winner!

[UnaBubba] Sonic boom, right, yeah, um 660mph, its outta the house, like gone

althyr, Jun 24 2003

Apart from having to wear ear protection in the house, this is great. Intercom sockets in all the chairs and hand signals for non-seated communication. (+)

Add wings to one of these. [see link]

is there nothing jet engines cant do?

chud, Jun 24 2003

Now I know why aircraft mechanics call jet engines "her".

UnaBubba, Jun 24 2003

[Zanzibar] yes .... because they're fussy, temperamental, demanding, and cost a fortune to maintain.

You forgot unyielding and sometimes cold to the touch.

...fun to ride, good to look at, hard to control...
