Molasses Tanks

High-resistance normal workouts.

Right now, people work out in water to add resistance to a normal workout (such as walking or t'ai chi). That's well and good -- but anyone who works out for a long time at the same resistance will cease benefitting.

So, as an option in a gym, have a tank of a highly vicsous fluid (molasses being the one suggested here, but some sort of clear oil is more likely). Rent it out for so many dollars an hour to people who want to train in a high-resistance environment. (You may wish to reinforce your shower drains before, though.)

Beware of the propensity of large tanks of molasses to explode. See [link].

You could have the tank engineered as some kind of glove box, whereby the exercise-ee is inside a giant plastic bag within the molasses, but I wouldn't want to get in there after someone else had been sweating it out. Eugh.

Actually, I think the risk of explosion adds something to it...

       That's not molasses.
