Ummm... this is already done with magnetic resistance equipment. I have some for my bicycles. Just dial up the resistance. On the top setting it is stiff enough that I can turn the back wheel if I stand on the pedals, as though I'm climbing a steep hill; I'm about 220lb, and falling, at the moment. |

As for molasses, just reduce the temperature of the molasses. Hey, Presto! Instant resistance. |

You could have the tank engineered as some kind of glove box, whereby the exercise-ee is inside a giant plastic bag within the molasses, but I wouldn't want to get in there after someone else had been sweating it out. Eugh. |
