MotoSofa
The SofaBus is coming, and everybody's jumping. | |
Roland set off early to work. He usually made it out the door by 7am on a Tuesday, and this morning wasn't much different.
The garage door lifted out of the way as he reeled in the power cable and stowed it under the seat cushion. The control panel cover lifted out of the way, Roland had the steering
sticks in hand; battery check FULL and Roland lurched forward on his new faux '57 Cadillac, candy-apple red sofa.
The sales guy had said it was good for 35-40mph, though the commute was rarely that quick, anyway. Range was supposed to be about 300 miles, with the battery configuration he had bought.
Electric motors humming, Roland rounded the corner and caught up with Guy, his usual partner on the bus. Guy was driving his new three-seater, in orange velour. Roland manoeuvred carefully behind him, flipped the JOIN switch and the electromagnetic coupling locked the two units together.
By the time they were out on the feeder road there were six of them in various colours, front to back, picking up passengers from the usual bus stops, collecting stares from motorists and commuters.
Roland adjusted his favourite cushion, unfurled a tatty old copy of Penthouse that he found under one of the cushions and settled in for a 45 minute drive. Guy was driving... he liked to be in control. Apparently Street Legal

http://www.grfx.com...ninman/img0047p.jpg You see a fair number of these at Burning Man - golf carts modified to be driveable sofas. Not quite the same as [UB]'s thing, but in the ballpark. [snarfyguy, Oct 05 2004, last modified Oct 17 2004]

For the record : 35-40 mph = 55-65 km/h. |

The mental image of a parking lot full of sofas is worth a crossiant at least. :) |

"Well, officer, it was a big, comfortable, overstuffed Chesterfield, with one arm slightly cat-damaged. I only ducked inside for 5 minutes and when I came back it was gone!" |
|
| |
That first link - 87mph on a sofa!
That would definitely beat UB's
sofa at the lights. |
|
| |
I've seen this somewhere. just an armchair though. I remember looking for a link before. |
|
| |
This would be lots of fun... in nice weather. |
|
| |
That first link is a beauty [PHD]! |

I prefer the idea of the Cummfy Banana Street Sleeper. |
|
| |
Wicked...do you have space for recliners too? |
|
| |
Roland is the name of my CAD designer, who also happens to be near retirement, and quite overweight. I keep picturing him trying to pick up women and ride around in a couch. + for that. |
|
| |
I want the remote! And an extra wide parking space. + |
|
| |
Rayf, Roland is an uncommon name. The two I've known have been a little pervy, creepy, dysfunctional... |
|
| |
When you reach a toll you can just reach between the cushions for spare change to drop in the basket. |
|
| |
I've never wanted anything more in my life. |
|
| |
I'll send you one, [Detly]. |
|
| |
I've never wanted anything more than a big pile of cash. You still have my address? |
|
| |
[half] wonders, does a single book constitute a library? |
|
| |
How many times have you read it? |
|
| |
That's okay, my CAD designer is quite creepy. |
|
| |
I think all CAD designers have a little "creepy" in them, somewhere. |
|
| |
Good churn, [UB] - I missed this the first time. This beats my carbicle for comfort. |
