A drawing toy including a series of cogs and cams fashioned from pure diamond, and a powerful laser pen.
After the pen has been charged (the lights down your road may dim a bit while doing this), insert pen into a hole and follow the cog/cam motions to draw lots of neat spirals, arcs and straight
lines.

So your kitchen table has now has a new tattoo? Are
you sure the cogs/cams would move? |
|
| |
So... a laser Spirograph? I would be surprised if it hasn't been
done already. |
|
| |
A Spirograph in a shaken wave tank, under a bright
light, seated over light sensitive film. |
|
| |
Ironically a spirograph couldn't do spirals. And this is a prestige toy for big boys. |
|
| |
Where did it say anything about a shaken wave tank? Or am I
missing something immensely obvious here? And making
something that exists out of a more expensive material isn't
exactly invention material. And given the nature of the
Spirograph, it is designed to be used with any kind of pen. To
use lasers doesn't require a new form of Spirograph. Or a new
form of laser pen. Or a new form of paper. (Neutral) |

// Or am I missing something immensely obvious here?
I don't know if it's obvious, but the last word of the title comes to mind. |
|
| |
I was hoping this would be an educational toy based on the Superconducting Supercollider [link]. |
|
| |
In my own youth, I learned a great deal about the difficulty of building an "atom smasher" in one's own basement. No pain, no gain... |
|
| |
I guess the point where I'm confused is this: what does it have to
do with a collider? A Collider aims 2 beams at each other, from
my limited understanding. This doesn't seem to. What am I
missing? |
|
| |
Yes, please explain how this works. [+] for laser diamond toys though. |
|
| |
The //neat spirals, arcs and straight lines// are referring to the patterns formed by trajectories of post collision particles. Not actually doing the collisions, more of a printer to plot the results - at least, that's how it appears to me. |
|
| |
The cogs/cams are going to have to be born perfectly
if you want light to move them. Or not the standard
laser pen. |
|
| |
Ah, how big are these crystal wheels? and do they
cut a medium of some sort? |
|
| |
I would've liked this idea to be a kit that allows you to build in your own dining room/shed/garden your own small atom smasher. |
|
| |
Fill the pen with plasma. Make sure you are wearing REALLY strong gloves and a welding mask, before you start drawing. |
|
| |
Kaz, that's been done. It's called the Small Hadron Collider. |
