Abdul emerged from the speakeasy, looking decidedly uneasy. Consumption of alcohol could get you into a lot of trouble in this part of the world.
Not feeling so well, he sat down, rather heavily, and contemplated a cluster of ants carrying half of a Pringle chip. After a short debate with himself
as to whether to steal it from the ants and eat it, Abdul had an idea.
He hurried unsteadily home to his shed and set about sewing a double layer kaffiyeh with hundreds of long, thin rollers, fashioned from lightweight body armour, sandwiched between the layers in little pockets. The rollers were exposed through narrow slits in the bottom layer of the kaffiyeh, with a narrow, toothed belt passing over a splined section at each end of every roller.
Adding a compact electric motor to each drive belt, each with a pressure control to permit steering, it was ready for a power source.
Power was then added to the device, courtesy of a powerful battery pack in his bumbag. By the time dawn had arrived, Abdul felt ready to test it.
Spreading the kaffiyeh on the ground and sitting squarely in its centre, he turned it on and was gratified to find it moved him along at a comfortable pace.
Not exactly a magic carpet but it would see him safely home after his Thursday night card games without being arrested by the self-appointed Modesty and Sobriety Police in this Allah-forsaken one-camel hick town.

Mighty uncomfortable to wear, especially if it turns on. |
|
| |
If it turns on then you'd probably end up with something like a picnic-blanket helicopter doing laps of your head. |

It does make a nice image, doesn't it? |
|
| |
Even if it didn't work, it would look so crazy that
people might wear it anyway.
I would. |
|
| |
Even better if it has a GPS and carries you home automatically. |
|
| |
Should it turn on while being worn, would it mess up the wearer's hair, or would it just rotate slowly around his head? |

With all the talk of doughnuts, clothing .I mixed up
Kaffiyeh with falafel and could not quite imagine
riding drunk on a whole lot of motorized pita
pockets. |
