Neutral Idea Rating Symbol

If + is [+] and - is [-]...

  [vote for,
against]

If you are the first annotator on an idea, it can be useful to state neutrality lest someone else fishbones without annotating and you appear to be the culprit.

If a positive vote is [+] and a negative vote is [-], then a neutral position could be represented as halfway between the two: [=]. This would prevent misunderstandings as described above.

//not everybody can be pleased at the same time?//

**What!?!?**

Oh. Right. Fair point.
Jinbish, Aug 20 2009

yahbut, if you're the first anno'er then you influence the next person to read, therefore you may be the cause of a bun or bone.

[ ] .... now maybe if you had written it 8 years ago...

Screw the first annotator! They're the crazy ones, all obsessed with fame. Everyone knows the sixth annotation is the best, anyways.

//Should we cater to that craziness//

Isn't that one of the prime purposes of the 'bakery? ;o)
DrBob, Aug 20 2009

Prime purposes? Are they like Space Corp Directives, or more like the directives that Robocop had scroll past him on his DOS screen, which if you freeze frame at a certain point, you'll actually see (well, we actually saw) one that says among the scrambled characters "Avoid Orion Meetings".

// Should we cater to that craziness //

It's probably wise to humor the crazies, lest they crawl up to your windows in the darkness and scratch their fingernails down the glass.......

[neutral] but only for the sake of irony.

Who was that guy that said that the world was round? Wasn't he crazy? It is really hard to judge who is crazy and who isn't.

Especially since BlueTooth handsfree became popular.

So now with a bit of money, I have a way out.

Cater to craziness..., Good God, I thought we not only catered to it, but we nourished and encouraged it as well. My mistake ;-)

Hey, anyone can be wrong. Except us, of course ....

... well there was that one cat you assimilated by accident. Ever since the borg have been roaming the galaxy rubbing up against any civilisation to assimilate a free meal.

If croissants be the food of crazy, bake on.

Solve the problem. Make it impossible to vote without first annotating.
UnaBubba, Aug 21 2009

[UB] Nagh! Sometimes the idea's so gorgeous/terrible nothing more needs to be said a bun or a bone says it all.
I'd rather see a "viewed" count.
That said, I usually treat the absolute sum of bun and bone as an indicator of "goodness".

Despite having the view that getting all Jesuitical about the mechanisms of the Halfbakery as opposed to revelling in its content is a bit unhealthy, it would be interesting to drop negative/neutral/positive votes in favour of voting "I am ambivalent about this idea"/"I have a strong positive or negative opinion about this idea!".
