I can see clearly now!

Walking along dark paths at night can be a little spooky.

Sure, streetlights are good, but they're not everywhere.

Night Paths are the latest craze. Simply add a long-lasting luminescent compound to concrete, and Viola! Glow In The Dark footpaths (sidewalks), so you can see where you're going.

What about people who want to hide?

MikeOliver, May 09 2003

They can do it in the bushes, like everyone else.

Good idea, but "long-lasting luminescent compound" - do you have any in mind? Might be easier to find a luminescent algae or lichen.

Anything that lasts 8-10 hours, so it can recharge during the following day.

UnaBubba, May 09 2003

Nice idea but it would lead to light pollution so astronomers would not be very happy.

Surely less so than street lighting?

UnaBubba, May 09 2003

It'd also use up a lot of dark.

saker, May 09 2003

There's a viola built into the concrete?

phundug, May 09 2003

Old joke, before your elf got here.

UnaBubba, May 09 2003

not quite what you envision UB, but you can buy little luminescent markers for the garden path shaped like mushrooms etc.

You have my elf? Can I have it back please? I'd trade a croissant...

saker, May 09 2003

They sell paving stones here which use solar power during the day to stay lit up all night. [link]

Your elf is just there, under that glowing mushroom, [saker].

       The path of enlightenment. Hehe!

       The path less travelled?

       The Shining Path.

Even if it's just individual luminescent nuggets mixed in, or added as a topping before smoothing. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce spent more than a few bucks making Hollywood Blvd. glitter (non-luminescent) from @ Vine to La Brea.

Night Vision is better. That way poor people can't afford it.

Kidding.. I'm a Kidder. (Sarcasm above)
