One of the hazards for military aircraft is getting shot down in hostile territory. All you need to do to promote their safety is announce to the hostiles trying to shoot you down that if they do, your planes will crash and nuke wherever it plummets to the ground.

Sure, there might be numerous casualties when the nuke goes off, but they would have been avoided by letting the plane do its conventional bombing run.

For operational safety, the pilots would not switch the auto destruct nuke on until they are near or over hostile territory and hopefully, would remember to switch it off after they leave.

I can't help it, if there was an e++++, I be that.

Unfortunately quite lot of US planes and helicopters have crashed in what has been termed "hostile territory" recently with people claiming that the enemy was *not* responsible. More innocent people and adjacent populations would have died on an even greater scale.

However the idea of plane too dangerous to shoot down is too good to fishbone.

I agree with [Aristotle] in that this is certainly a good idea and croissant-worthy.

I wonder if there could be a mechanism that would only arm the weapon when hostile fire takes it down rather than a flight accident?

The only planes the UK lost in the Gulf War were due to an allied country (that I won't name) shooting them down in friendly fire incidents. Presumably those kind of events should not cause the bomber to detonate as well.

I didn't know Jamaica was running the anti-aircraft stuff in the Gulf War.

I would guess this weapon would be against the Geneva Conventions, although the USA has used the random bombing of civilian targets as a military tactic in every war since planes were invented.

Two Palestinian women are walking through Jerusalem. One says to the other "Does my bomb look big in this?"

bristolz: The mental image of rastafarian anti-aircraft crew from Jamaica is ane enduring one. I can imagine it now ... "Hey mon, hold this righteous mary jane while I take a pot shot at that there aircraft from Babylon".
