One Big Window Airplane

Small camera's and projectors all over the plane

Inspired by the "windowless airliner" idea. This one is the opposite.

Place cameras all over the outside of the plane at fixed intervals and put projectors inside. Make sure the inside of the fuselage has the qualities of a smooth screen.

Now, with one push of a button, all camera's project their image at the same time on the interior, making it look as if there is no fuselage at all, and you're floating in the air!

It must be scary but fun at the same time. Especially when landing...

to reverse this idea -- if you projected the images of the sky taken by external cameras to opposite sides of the outer surfaces of the plane, the plane would appear "invisisble" from a distance. you could combine this with your idea so the fusilage is invisible inside and out.

they have developed clothing (link) that does just this using flexible displays formed into jackets, pants etc. (+)

Hmm, I was about to post an idea similar to this. It involved a platform of cameras to project in a room the outside. Wherever this camera was at, your room would appear to be there. Link up to other camera platforms via internet or satellite, and you could be sitting in a glass room off the coast of Fiji, 20 feet above the beach, or in downtown NYC, etc.

A big croissant from me, especially because whenever I fly I am usually the only one on the plane with the window shade open.

me too. I really don't understand why people do not look out of the window. It's so beautiful and so peaceful. And it relieves me of my claustrophobia.

The windowless airplane would make me go hysteric.

Of course, you would have a fear-of- flying section in which the cameras projected a pastoral scene as viewed from a railway car.

Agree w django (the jazz guitarist?). I always ask for the window seat. One of the most eerily beautiful signts in my life was a night flight. Plane was in totally clear air above a thick cloud cover. Like a never-ending snow sculpture. Wouldn't have missed it for the world! And peaceful. Perhaps those bothered by the "real world" projection could have the recorded projection of the "real world" of a different time and place ~ perhaps mine of the moonlit night flight.
