Make the "blade" out of a sponge material (maybe micropores) and have a semi-rigid irrigation system. the handle of the sword has a pressurization system (fishtank water pump?) with a hos coming out of the "pommel" connecting to a small hip or back mounted tank.
Pessurization is only used when you
are going to use the sword, it is activated by a button on the handle. pressurization forces paint through the sponge and keeps it from running dry.
The blade could be made small like a dirk or a dagger or a short blade, to medium sized one handed blades. all the way to large claymore sized two handers. (tank would need to be different sized as well.)
