On dealing with inventions that exist: |

When someone posts something they know exists, that's just stupid, and we'll call them on it. |
|

But if someone comes up with an idea, and then, later, they learn that it exists somewhere - that's just a coincidence, and no reason to attack them or remove their work. |

To me, that seems fair towards the posters. Someone who posts something that turns out to exist has put just as much work
into their post as someone whose work doesn't turn out to exist. |

You can disagree with that, but then take it up with me (preferably in email), not with the individual posters. You're having a problem with the site policy, not with the way it's enforced. |

On why Panic PIN has so many votes in favor: |

Once it ended up on top of the "top ten" list, anyone who'd be interested in the top ten would see it. Even users who never returned would first go look at the top ten, vote for an idea or two - and this would be one of the ones they'd see. It's a well-meaning enough idea, and people like to join others in their approval, so people would tend to vote for it - even though there are funnier and better and more original ideas on the site, this is the one that more people saw. |

You can still build a top ten list yourself from the generic view editor. But I've stopped including it in the set of views that users get when they sign up because it made people think of the site too much as a contest. |

AD, the idea was not widely known (baked) at the time and still is not in the real world. it was possibly healthily bunned because it provoked a great deal of fruitful discussion. |

[AD], you don't have to be obsessed to notice all your ideas suddenly receiving a negative vote. I'm proud of mine, regardless of their scores but even so it grates to see so many of them downgrade, or receive their only negative vote, all because someone took offense to something I wrote (I assume). |

I agree with your sentiment of hypocriticism on the bakery; why do some ideas get treated differently etc. But I like [21]s redwood in the pines motif. I say keep the Panic PIN for the annos, the arguments and the references made about it elsewhere (of which there are many I believe). |

theleopard: don't obsess about it, really. I've had people do that to me several times, only for the fishbones in question to suddenly evaporate some time later, presumably on the destruction of the account in question. If someone is behaving badly enough to go fishboning every single idea of yours simply because you made a negative comment, they're behaving badly enough to get ejected for other reasons. And then the balance will be restored. |

I guessed I missed this entirely, but the same has just happened to me. I don't check my account that often, but I was showing my s/o something today and noticed that my first idea used to have 2 1/2 buns and now had 2. As I looked down the entire column, I noticed every one had decreased. I wasn't aware that I had any *enemies* here and it just made me feel bad. I can't believe it's been happening to other 'bakers, esp. great ones like [xenzag]. I thought of quitting, but it would only spite myself. So, thank you all good 'bakers for kind and positive outlooks. |

Re Bun inflation... An idea can have (I think) 22 buns and no bones, and still only be a two-bunner. So I think you are probably just running afoul of more stringent standards, and jumping to a conclusion. Just a theory, but it would explain this happening to so many people. |

[johng], I'm one of the 50-odd people who've voted against the idea. I honestly don't think it's anywhere close to as good as many of the other ideas on here. But even I don't think you should delete an idea that 328 (not even including the 500 or so voters who lost their votes in the great big crash) people liked enough to vote for. |

[xenzag] at a glance, it looks like your popular ideas outnumber the unpopular ones 10 to 1 or more. One person's opinion can't have that much weight in the face of that. |
