P.O.P.S.

For Moms and Pops who are so scared of technology they don't even trust direct deposit. Home pick up, space suit (for the really paranoid), armored bank truck, armed guards, simulated coverage by air, land and sea over fake police and military band radio.

What's direct deposit? It sounds scary.

       Satiric, but sadly, not funny.

Radio? But military bands, oh yes, I enjoy a nice march.

Direct Deposit? Well, that’s just for people who have income, so if you don’t know what it is, you probably shouldn’t be too worried, no one is going to direct deposit on you without your knowledge.

I’m rather fond of that march music myself, but you know, it will have to be reserved for making return trips from successful missions, when one can hold real government currency in their hand and know that they have control and power that they can see, feel and even smell, ahhh, strike up the band while they have the world by the jewels.

Well I agree it is sad, but when you are faced with situations where people won’t listen to reason it may be best to lighten up and have a sense of humor about the whole thing. I have just described a strange option that could possibly be more satisfying to someone who has certain irrational fears.

I have a friend who works with assisting the elderly and she has told me some very amazing stories. She knows a lady who gets two checks a month, one from her oil and one from the government, and she has to be driven to the bank drive-up each time where she counts the money, no less than twice, and commonly sends it back in for a recount by the tellers. She then keeps this money in her purse, and who knows what she does with it at home. She may not trust the banks but she is putting herself in a position of danger. I don’t think her fears are rational and I think she should feel a need for some tight security if she wants to carry all her cash around with her everywhere she goes, when she could be using direct deposit and a bank card, or checks, that are insured against theft. Yes, that’s sad, but sometimes you just have to laugh it off.

But the fears of the elderly continue and maybe some eccentric options should be offered that they may be able to feel secure in their own unique ways.

I gotta get outa my space suit now, c ya!

Usually means "Take your eyes off me for a split second so's I can get away".

I took a friend's father to his cataract surgery. I was in the waiting room the entire time, but he called his son at work to find out where I was. The nurses never bothered to see if I was in the waiting room. I wish I had told him that I was in the debriefing room with all the generals.
