Permig
Like percent, only bigger | |
While researching SEO/SEM, I discovered a lot of phrases like "the 1% of the 1%...". Percent might be a useful metric for things measured in 3 or 4 orders of magnitude, but we need equivalents across the spectrum for each degree of thousands. That is, an expression for each division of thousands, millions,
billions, etc.
I propose the expressions permig and perbin to indicate 1 per million and billion, respectively. These are not presently english words, but in the context of expressing small portions of large numbers should be easily spelled, spoken, and understood.
As is always the case, I expect that there is some well-established standard among members of industries or institutions of which I have not been made previously aware. Feel free to bone with proper profferance of education.

The established terms are ppm (parts per million) and ppb (parts per billion.) [link] |

There may be some controversy over the british use of "billion" to mean a million millon (10^12) instead of the more widely used thousand million (10^9.) |

Have a million microbones (or a billion nanobones if you prefer.) |
