Photo-Ready Firearms
A camera that is fixed to the side of police handguns. It takes a picture of whatever is in front of the gun when it is fired. | |
I live in a city that has reduced police shootings in a big way.
We have accomplished this largely by improving police
training
and setting up an independent watch group.
A few years ago there was a terrible situation with no clear
answers as to why a particular person was shot dead by a
city
officer. The officer had to go through a lot. The family of
the
victim had to go through a lot. No one really won.
I propose small cameras that take a still photo every time the
gun fires. The camera points in the direction that the bullet
travels.
This would help protect officers from being falsely accused.
It
would also help convict them if they unlawfully fire their
weapon (i.e. on the unarmed).
Security guards should also carry photo-ready firearms.

didn't lot get turned into salt or was it a parking lot? |
|

They should add a button so the officer could use it as a regular camera too. |
|
| |
It should be a movie not a still image. It would be sort of a jumpy Blair Witch sort of movie but perhaps better because of it. The camera would start rolling when the gun was drawn. They would be very exciting movies, just as the dashboard cams in patrol cars take many exciting movies. Tasers and pepper spray should also have cameras. If the taser and can of pepper spray could be clipped together at a fixed distance, the two movies could be combined using 3D glasses. |

I thought they did this already... well they should. |
|

hmmm. I think you'll want that picture taken either just before or just after the weapon discharges otherwise you'll only capture the muzzle flash. |
|
| |
This is baked. They've been working on this concept for years.
Google, dude. [-] |

How about mounting a small camera below the barrel, with five minutes or so worth of recording capacity. When the gun is drawn from the holster a magnet switches the camera on, and it records everything that happens after the gun is drawn. |
|
| |
This would be easy - my barcode scanner at work has a magnetic switch to turn it on as soon as you take it out of the holster. |

There, I posted some links. Happy now? This is nowhere near an
original idea, as a very simple Google search would have shown
the poster, had he/she/it bothered to check for prior art. |

[Marked-for-Deletion] widely known to exist, at least among
those of us who care about such things. |

... getting my picture taken by a cop now means him drawing and and aiming at my face.... i think not. |
|

This is very baked. Many departments are still testing it but it's available now. |
