The latest craze sweeping the country. Just like line dancing, but in pirate costume. Just like a hornpipe, but with linked elbows.

Parrots optional, for a whirling, joggling mess of humanity, each having the time of his/her life.

AAHRRR!

UnaBubba, Jun 26 2005

Didn't Gilbert & Sullivan do something with this? http://myweb.tiscal...andham/pirates1.htm

Description (displayed with the short name and URL.)

Now just gather a bunch of friends and go to a city where people haven't heard of this yet, and watch the looks on their faces.

finrod, Jun 26 2005

       Oh, yeah!

UnaBubba, Jun 26 2005

This is just an excuse to use pirates in something. +

DesertFox, Jun 26 2005

Actually, it came about because some nasty people wanted to start a bit of line dancing at my birthday party, on Saturday. Yesterday (Sunday) was my 41st anniversary.

UnaBubba, Jun 26 2005

       ¡Feliz Cumpleaños [UB]!

Pericles, Jun 26 2005

       [nyarr].

contracts, Jun 26 2005

Did the Honourable Member from Queensland receive my salutations regarding his anniversary, Mr Speaker?

waugsqueke, Jun 26 2005

Indeed he did. His joy at the receipt of such tidings was palpable.

UnaBubba, Jun 26 2005

UnaBubba, you may be disheartened to know that not only do we have kids that are nearly the same age; our birthdays are one day apart and there is one year difference.

<The outer limits> doo dee doo doo, doo dee doo doo </tol)

Ling, Jun 26 2005

Well, it's just a big birthday weekend. Mrs [angel] had her 44th last Friday.

       Compliments of the season, [UB]!

       (edit) And [Ling] of course.

angel, Jun 27 2005

Ling, - your kids are nearly the same age as UnaBubba?

Ian Tindale, Jun 27 2005

//some nasty people wanted to start a bit of line dancing// In my book, that's a capital offence. At the very least, you should shun them.

//your kids are nearly the same age as UnaBubba?// If so, then MFD: "magic"

Ling, Jun 27 2005

       Van Harte gefeliciteerd [UnaBubba]!

Susan, Jun 27 2005

       Happy belated b-day, [Bubba]!

Machiavelli, Jun 27 2005

//This is just an excuse to use pirates in something.// True, but it would be very funny.

I've put candles on your croissant, [UB].

wagster, Jun 27 2005

I wonder how they powered the Electric Slide in those days.

waugsqueke, Jun 27 2005

With electricity. They attached wires to various highly conductive parts of their anatomies, then rubbed dozens of cats the wrong way. I know, because Andrea Deicke told me so.

UnaBubba, Jun 27 2005

       Glad Födelsedag, [UB]!

FarmerJohn, Jun 27 2005

       Belated birthday wishes UnaBubba.

kaz, Jun 27 2005

(anyone else noticed that the pirates ideas have lost their aye/arr/narr buttons? Methinks bakery support for pirating has been withdrawn)

david_scothern, Jun 28 2005

Not before time. It only encourages them.

angel, Jun 28 2005

//bakery support for pirating has been withdrawn// I understand it is due to anti-discriminatory pressure from the International Federation of Footpads, Brigands, Bandits and Cut-purses.

TolpuddleSartre, Jun 28 2005

You just have to have a profile page that says 'Arrrrr.' *wink*

'Just like a hornpipe, but with linked elbows.'
Ain't it always. HBUB

The last contra dance weekend I went to was on Halloween, and several people chose pirate costumes.
//a whirling, joggling mess of humanity, each having the time of his/her life// That pretty much describes a good contra dance.

If you like dancing pirates, find the Stratford, Ontario, version of Pirates of Penzance.

baconbrain, Jun 28 2005

I like Pirates of Penzance, I think I saw it live once in my hometown.

Too bad Jack Sparrow didn't do a musical number. Oh well, high hopes for the sequel.

hobbitcoat, Jun 28 2005

"Let's see..was it 'stagger stagger crawl..." "We Yellowbeards are never more dangerous than when we're dead"

       Oh, and happy birthday.

moPuddin, Jun 28 2005

       Congratulations. HB UB!

sartep, Jun 28 2005

       Happy belated UB-day.

I tried to organise a group of griends to help me gatecrash a line-dancing club this weekend, dressed as pirates. They all chickened out. I may still go alone, out of spite.

UnaBubba, Jun 29 2005

I'd have done it, Una. Sometimes I pretend to be human, how is a pirate any different?

sartep, Jun 29 2005

Pirates tend to be missing bits. Go on, you try line dancing with a wooden leg.

david_scothern, Jun 29 2005

Obligatory "I thought this was about": I thought this was about selling bootleg copies of line-dancing videos. I couldn't figure out who would be interested in *that* kind of video, but now I know.

       Pirates.

       And UnaBubba.

Felicitations, young pup. Hope you see many, many more. (PS also [Ling], Mrs [angel], and anyone else I missed)

Canuck, Jun 29 2005

//bootleg copies of line-dancing videos. I couldn't figure out who would be interested in *that* kind of video//

A glimpse of pale thigh might be appealing, but not if it is made from Ash. Who says pirates have to be male? Thanks for the felicitations.

Ling, Jun 29 2005

//A glimpse of pale thigh might be appealing, but not if it is made from Ash.//
I suspect that Paul McCartney may not agree.

angel, Jun 29 2005

       Heh.

waugsqueke, Jun 29 2005

       Let it be.

UnaBubba, Jun 29 2005

       Very Good [angel].
belated Hippy Bathday to [UB], [Ling] and [Mrsangel].

gnomethang, Jun 29 2005

it seems as though the swords are getting in the way, slicing people's legs and other body parts as they are swirling and twirling, what a bloody mess, slipping all over the dance floor

xandram, Nov 18 2005

If the Jamaican Bobsled team from 'Cool Runnings' can learn to line dance...so can I.
