Using a device similar to a mapping laser, read the planet as a needle would read a music record.

Map the depth to a music scale of your choice, and listen to the planet's creation story.

Annotation:

At first I thought you were suggesting we build a giant needle.

Saw something like this in an episode of that fantastic comic 2000AD. There was an asteroid carved in to a disc with one long canyon spiraling from the outer edge in to the center. The they bred special animal that all had perfect pitch and cultivated them in the proper place in the canyon. Once the colonies were established they got a spaceship with a very large protusion on the bottom, that perfectly fitted the canyon and flew from the outer edge in to the middle, with the protusion in the canyon squishing all the little animals. As they died they called out their last cry, in perfect pitch, thereby making the song.
