The whole world picks a date when we all get to gether and blow ourselves up. It would take the guesswork out of when it was going to happen and people could plan their futures accordingly.

Oh, but the truth is much darker than that, UB... http://members.aol....ebob/exposebob.html
Of course, this blasphemer will be the first to feel the Stark Fist of Removal, when X-Day comes... July 5th, 1998... mark my words. The world WILL end. What? You wouldn't question my faith, would you? [Guy Fox, May 27 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

Ah, but this righteous man will be saved... http://members.trip...apajoe666/rail.html
Don't say I didn't warn you. July 5th, 1998. The end is nigh? How more nigh can you get? [Guy Fox, May 27 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

I think people might start behaving a little strangely if they knew when.

There's no guess work. God has it all figured out.
waugsqueke, May 24 2002

others are already behaving as if they knew the date. How do we pick the date? Random selection? Why do we need to know this for sure? Don't let President Shrub have a vote!

I second that motion, Guy. All in favour?

       <crowd>Aye!</crowd>

       All those opposed?

       <single clapper>Clap!</single clapper>

Sorted. Next order of business, which biscuit to bring to the next meeting.

12 Feb 2001. The beginning of the end, perhaps.

Turn OFF the Television and ban CNN and Fox News.

What apocalypse? Here's what actually happened when St. John the Divine, Nostradamus, and those other prophets went into a trance to detect the future: The foci of their senses ended up in some movie theatre showing "Deep Impact" or "The Omega Code" or various equivalent films. Heh heh heh....
Vernon, May 26 2002

For the rather slow members of the assembled audience, including myself, would Guy and Bristolz please make a note about the particular significances of July 5, 1998 and February 12, 2001? I've darn near scratched a bald spot trying to attach any specific meaning to either date. Neither rings any special global bells for me...And , considering the individuals, I'd be very surprised to find that either date had anything to do with something as transparent as either's divorce decree or date of maturation.

Ah, UB, may or (more likely) may not be on to something with his links...My money is on "Not", but nonetheless intriguing reading and worth investigating. Thanks, UB.

10/16/97--35th anniversary of the Cuban missile crisis? 20th anniversary of Argentina's military coup? The year you first started corresponding with Jutta? Enlighten us!
jurist, May 26 2002

[jurist]: Oh, sorry. I forgot to come back and see if anybody figured it out. 12 Feb 01 was the day the human genome was published in its entirety. An event which, I think, will have a more enduring impact on humanity than the events of 11 Sep 01. Looks like [UB]'s shotgun approach netted the right answer.

I was hoping to find some Dec, 21, 2012 people in this mix.
