Good fences make good neighbours. Invisible fences make for nicer yards, allowing you to "borrow" garden vistas to enhance your garden-viewing pleasure.
BubbaCo's new popup fences are cleverly designed so they remain underground until someone approaches your property too closely. Once the motion
sensors are set off, the fence is launched from its underground silo, running up to full height and tension between the "trees" at either end of it. Note: They are NOT electrified, merely electrically operated.
May also be used to launch oneself into a multiple somersaulting leap into the pool, if you can get someone to operate the fence while you stand over the silo.

A bit like the popup security screens installed in some banks. |

This I like. A good way to keep dogs in, too. You'd have to keep
up on the maintenance, though, to keep it working properly. I've
seen popup barricades like this at the gates of military
installations, but those are triggered by the press of a button in
the guard shack and are much smaller than what I think you're
proposing. [+] |

There's one of those at the entrance to the US embassy in Canberra. The rest of the country is a bit more relaxed. |
