After watching a policeman trying to direct traffic through a busy intersection where the street signals had gone dead it ocurred to me that he was taking the risk of accidentally getting hit when he really shouldn't have had to take it. A set of portable lights in the form of a vertical bar could easily
be carried on the roof or in the trunk of a police car. When the need arose they'd just be pulled out and set up in the middle of the intersection and controlled remotely by the officer who would then be sitting safely in his car. there are a variety of them here that can be useful

+ I was half watching something one time about the traffic in Mexico City. The Traffic cop then said that he had been hit over a hundred times.
He said people ask him why he doesn't ticket people who break the law? He answers them that when they are kind enough to stop, that's what he does. |
