information is really just variances in voltage, on and off. So, in the same way you have a network switch/router/hub, you can build a power network.
this is built upon the idea of every house having a fuel cell that is recharged via wind/solar/fossil fuel power production, (see decentralize
the power grid). If your fuel cell was running out, or if your whole town had a cloudy day, you could just "download" more power from neighboring houses/cities.
the DC power sent through the lines could be used to run a generator, the routers would distribute evenly, and the power could create a faux AC that would send bursts to an electric motor. [link]

...so basically re-inventing the power grid? |
|
| |
yes, but with this you could contribute to the grid. instead of the fuel cell being just for you, it would be shared. kinda like communism. stalin would be proud. really... |

The power grid we have today is a linear (bus) network. This idea is to make a power grid like a star network, where information (power) goes both ways. just think of the fuel cell as a computer, sending and reciving power from other computers and getting power (like user input) from the solar panels. |

Like net metering...which is baked. |

I think what you're describing in the last paragraph is effectively an inverter, which converts DC to the appropriate AC. |
