RPG Speedboat Ejector Seat

Because Speedboats Crash Hard

This is an idea for a rocket powered glider ejector seat that the driver of a speedboat straps onto his back by the very act of buckling the seat harness. It would automatically eject the boat driver straight up when the boat is about to crash and then it would fold out into a glider when it reaches apex and fire a rocket to safely remove the driver far away from the scene of the boat accident. The rocket powered glider would be fully steerable by the driver and would be able to fly the driver for about 5-15 minutes and to an altitude that is safe for gliding back to the ground.

I sort of drew something like that here, but for jet skis instead of speed boats [quantum_flux, May 21 2008, last modified Oct 20 2008]

Smokin' Joe Speedboat Crashes http://www.foxnews....2933,356601,00.html
This occured today at the Budweiser Drag Boat Nationals race, Joe shattered his pelvis unfortunately, but I like to think the injury could have been prevented with an RPG Ejector Seat safety mechanism. [quantum_flux, May 21 2008]

I used to play this in high school http://en.wikipedia...(role-playing_game)

//rocket powered glider would be fully steerable by the driver and would be able to fly the driver for about 5-15 minutes // That's a mighty big rocket - are you sure you want to lose that much competitive edge, lugging that much safety gear around in your boat?
Most ejector seats carry a parachute and dinghy, and have zero (speed)-zero (altitude) capabilities - what's wrong with one of those?

Ahh - I was wondering why you'd want a speedboat ejector seat in your Role Playing Game.

I read it is "Rocket Propelled Grenade", which an ejection seat kind-of is, except the "grenade" goes off first to boost the seat clear of the cockpit, and then rocket takes over.
I think I read once that the boost charge is equivalent to the the explosive power of a couple of hand grenades.
Just inches below your derriere.

I wouldn't doubt this mechanism is hard to configure though. I mean, gliders are lightweight and a rocket could burn for a little time, right? I'll have to come back to this one later when I have more time to research it.

       Fit a Martin-Baker Zero-Zero seat ....

//a rocket could burn for a little time, right//
And how many burn for five minutes?
The Shuttle's SRBs burn for about two minutes.

Hmmm, yeah, but what about a pulsating sprinkler head type rocket that sort of bounces the glider along like Mario does with his cape in Super Mario World? I suppose nothing precludes that if a solid fuel rocket booster had a bunch of seperated internal stages in it that sequentially ignite every 30 seconds or so and last for a duration of however long they last....there must be something doable like that.

Dude, do you really want to eject into the surface of the water at 90 mph if, in the .3 seconds after you start wiping out you are, mmm....upside down? Hey, was that my spine snapping?

My brain is playing me the James Bond theme as I ponder this invention.
