Well, when I was a kid (not long ago) I used to wash dishes at a restaurant using this high pressure water hose. You could clean almost anything in less than a second flat.
The main drawback, I am repeatedly told, is that water splashes everywhere. While a pro can learn to redirect it neatly, it
doesn't make sense for common household usage.
What if you had a flexible plastic sheet covering the sink? Then you could stick your hands in there and wash things up. No extra machinery, nothing to break, no rinsing before stacking before taking it out again.
Another idea is to use pressurized air, which would eliminate the hazards of splashing, and remove one's need to dry the dishes. Just put it in and blast away.
Just a half baked idea. : p

I was thinking the same thing - One of those isolation booths, with great big thick rubber gloves so that you never have to actually *touch* the washing up. In fact, it's so good, I'ma post it. |

But dry air still blows the food all over the place, so it's kinda the same thing. Having been a dishwasher myself (I worked at Denny's for about 6 months before I joined the service, I've also washed dishes at Pizza Hut) I must contest your statement that simply blasting a dish with pressurized water or air can replace a dishwasher. You still need soap. At both Denny's and Pizza Hut, I had the high-pressure hose, but I still had to load everything into the clipper (an industrial-strength dishwasher) before serving food on it. |

Another reason this wouldn't be well-recieved in most homes is that it's quicker to just throw everything in the dishwasher than to individually blast everything. And many sinks (mine included) already have a pressurized hose, just not always industrial-strength. Bone. |
