because sometimes you need it shiny side out and sometimes you need it shiny side in.

       [+] for any idea involving tin-foil hats to block the CIA brain rays.

       Doesn't work. If you do that your brainwaves will be reflected back on each other and eventually your head will explode. Mine did.

       Rubbish ! There's no way that...

       BLAMMMM ......

       Waves don't give a damn which side is shiny.

       Just drill a tiinnnny little trepanation hole into the skull and squirt a syringe full of mercury into it.
This coats the inside of the skull nicely and you will have no more brain ray problems.

       Guaranteed.

       Please elucidate. I know tin foil, and it is a bitch to shape and reshape, always wanting to crinkle in the wrong direction or tear in half. No wonder it's the only viable precaution against mind control. How will you be able to pull this inside out without compromising integrity?
daseva, Jun 10 2008

       Any chance that Nitinol could serve the same brain-ray blocking function?

       If so, it could be made in the form of a simple cone (with a shiny side of course). When reversed, a little heat will straighten out all those crinkly inefficiencies.

       If this doesn't serve the purpose, then I'd suggest a full-face ALON helmet.

       Maybe not, but fashionistas definitely do!

       I agree with [daseva]. Although this is the halfbakery, not every good invention will work.

       Laminate it?
Jinbish, Jun 10 2008

       //Laminate it?//
Yes actually: lamination doesn't reduce a tinfoil hat's effectiveness. Note that tinfoil thickness should be (at least) 0.5mm so requires multiple layers anyways.

       //Waves don't give a damn which side is shiny//
but the devices which are trying to read or control your mind do.
