Ring World
When my phone rings, the world springs to action | |
MP3 ringtones are so last year. The goal here is to cause the ringing of my phone to produce a real world effect, short of someone hitting me over the head with a baseball bat.
The mechanism proposed is the association of my phone# with a URL of my choice, which should be easily implemented in any
number of "follow-me dialing" systems.
This URL will be a page programmed by me that will, for instance, send a signal to Aibo to bark, or make my robotic snake slither, or make all the X10 wired appliances in my house flash, etc.
A different URL ringtone idea

i, for one, think this idea would be quite handy. |

"as recardo sensed something wasn't right, his aunt Laurna dialed his number. he saw his cellular light up and let out a blood-curdling scream. his house went up in a mushroom cloud, and power went out for about 3 square blocks." |

Your caller could ring a postman to deliver you a
letter. |

Google Voice comes pretty close to this. You can configure your number to ring every phone in the house if you want. I have mine set to ring my mobile and landline simultaneously. This is also at least partially Baked for landline phones. My parents have the same provider for their landline phone and cable TV, and whenever the phone rings, the caller ID pops up in a notification window on the TV screen. The idea in this post could probably be accomplished via Bluetooth or WiFi. Mind you, it requires more widespread application of Bluetooth tech. That said, I think the telecom companies are already moving as much in this direction as they can. |

I deleted the broken link, 21. Perhaps you are right and this is on the way to being baked, though of couse I posted it nearly 5 years ago. |

That's a good point... I overlooked the post date. Bone withdrawn, with apologies. |
