With the coming of driverless and ownerless vehicles on the roads, much has been put into making each vehicle safe and not dangerous like human drivers are, by using AI, which is made of statistics, only, artificial. Each vehicle is separate, and will make decisions autonomously even though they may end up communicating.

What about, as a supplement, having street lighting and other such furniture also be equipped with sensors to form a 'ground-based' and perhaps cellular set of intelligence regarding that immediate location, that each vehicle can subscribe to as it enters the cell. The point being that if someone or something makes a move, it may well be that the driverless vehicle can detect this and decide what to do, but there is also a likelihood that it can’t quite “see” it clearly enough from where it happens to be. A separate cellularly-arranged network of static overview would add a lot, and offload a lot, of processing and perhaps responsibility. If it works.

So, a lamp-post would warn the autonomous car of the out-of- control tricycle about to emerge from the alley?

You know, [Ian], this is not such a stupid idea.

Yes, like [Max], I am bound to observe that this idea is not stupid

It is not as stupid as it could be, but that could be remedied by incorporating custard, jam and bees.

       And bluetooths.

'The Machine' will have an even higher DQ.

Can the sentries be designed in the B9 class M3 General Utility Non-Theorizing variety, with some wavy arms? Or perhaps the ED-209 variety, but with some curb-negotiating ability?
