Scylla & Charybdis Pool

Swim, like you've never swum before.

For your morning swimming exercise, a massive whirlpool created by the pool pump tries to pull you under, forcing you to swim closer to the giant squid that lives in the shadows on the other side of the pool. 25 laps each day of this pool and you’ll be an Olympic swimmer before you know it.

He was an amazing swimmer. [Jinbish, Jan 03 2008]

Man alive! Or not as the case may be. Is there any possibility for a graduated difficulty level for those of us that aren't built like Ian Thorpe - perhaps some slight turbulence and a cuttlefish?
Jinbish, Jan 03 2008

OK, We'll start it out that way. Perhaps a filter inlet skimmer and a goldfish bowl?
UnaBubba, Jan 03 2008

Michael Phelps (USA) is systematically demolishing Thorpe's records, each year.
UnaBubba, Jan 03 2008

That's bit closer to my capabilities. I'll work up to a sea monster of Kraken-esque proportions... (maybe)
Jinbish, Jan 03 2008

Phelps: he is also an amazing swimmer - even better than me. But isn't nicknamed "Thorpedo".
Jinbish, Jan 03 2008

I've got a couple of ex-girlfriends you could hire on ...

       Sans lifeguards, of course.

Also good for annoying children. [+]

// good for annoying children //

Not merely good, but excellent .... ty-raps round wrists and ankles, and away they go.

You have to hope that the poor squid doesn't choke on the plastic, though.

This seems a little overcomplicated. Surely a pool on a slope would suffice?

Please can we have the Symplegades as well?
DenholmRicshaw, Jan 03 2008

       And the Cyclops ?
8th of 7, Jan 03 2008

I'd give you the Symplegades but Jason did them in, didn't he? As I recall, they no longer move, since he passed the Bosporus and they snatched the stern ornament from his vessel.

In any case, Odysseus couldn't agree with Apollonius whether they were on the same route or not. Perhaps we could have them in the next door neighbours' pool?

[8/7], did you mean just Polyphemus, or the other Cyclopes, as well? I keep them in the cellar, err... Tartarus...
UnaBubba, Jan 03 2008

Now you come to mention it, there has been a lot of building activity next door recently. An ornithologist friend has also noticed a recent decline in the numbers of doves.
DenholmRicshaw, Jan 03 2008

In dove numbers, or just their tailfeathers?
UnaBubba, Jan 03 2008

The doves are useless round here.
DenholmRicshaw, Jan 04 2008

       Perhaps you could use hawks?
