I know Google has been developing things similar to this (deskbar and desktop search) but I would like it if there was a system that worked like this:
You go to the website and type in the search string. At the top of the results screen the definitions of the words entered are shown, with a link to
synonyms and rhymes. It also searches your computer, and like Google Desktop displays a link like "15 results on your computer." It searches eBay, Shopping.com, and Amazon and has a link for products matching the search string. It then displays the web results. [link]

I know it's probably baked, but I couldn't find anything. |

Dogpile used to be a primitive version of that. It only searched search engines though. |

One of the more entertaining search engines used to be Magellan. It would show you the top 10-20 search words people entered in the search fields. The list was refreshed every 15 seconds or so. I was surprised how many times something popped up that looked like it would be worth searching on (you could click the word in that case and get the same results the original searcher got). |

All The Web and Vivisimo do something like dogpile |

I might be able to write a Perl script to do this. |
