Seizure site

Certain visual and aural stimuli have the power to induce seizures in some people. Even in people who dont seize, these stimuli can cause strange, indescribable sensations. The most recent one I can think of was the flashing eyes on an episode of PokeMon, which when broadcast caused seizures in dozens of viewers. Other examples include the finishing screen on Ms Pac Man and Mary Hart's voice.

I propose that a website be set up to collect, display and analyze these stimuli. Visitors could view them to determine what effect, if any, they could perceive. This would be a pay site, with plenty of warnings, to prevent the unsuspecting from stumbling in. Also, by collecting these stimuli in one place and analyzing commonalities, perhaps new visual/aural stimuli could be designed to trigger other physiologic responses - sleep, sneezing, orgasm, nausea etc.

Its interesting that in support of your hypothesis, you link to a page that claims the Pokemon story is false. In fact, many researchers believe that while a handful of children in Japan may have had photosensitive reactions to the Pokemon episode, that a large part of the alleged 600 to 700 children affected were actually victims of mass hysteria. See link to a detailed Skeptical Inquirer article on the topic.

Sorry.....fishbone for this one. I don't see why anyone would visit a site the would cause them the have seizures. Let alone pay for it! Except maybe if they wanted to try to commit suicide in one of the least enjoyable manners. I know it wouldn't happen to every visitor, but it WILL happen. Could you image how much liability insurance would cost? Are you trying to find out how many manslaughter convictions you could rack up? You could maybe add a counter showing the total? Of course, you'll have to do site administration from your jail cell.

Mooks might be interested. "Try some acid." (2nd dude) "I don't know dude." "Hey, if you take a hit of acid, I'll take 3." (3rd dude) "How about 4? In fact, if you take 5, or better still 6 hits, I'll do the seizure site." (4th dude) "Yeah dude, I tried that once, it was a trip. I woke up in a hospital. They told me to sue them, but I signed a waiver."
