well, my backburner project is an energy-efficient home, so I have a manual pump that fills a tank in the roof: same thing except you don't have a shower *causing* you to break into a sweat. |

I've often climbed out of the shower on a hot day, and found myself sweating before I could get my clothes on again. Working while in the shower would make that more frequent and more frustrating. |

Pump the water up before you get in the shower. And save yourself from cleaning shower scum out of a cross-trainer's treads. |

I like the idea of pumping the water up before the shower better. Maybe the tank is normally pre-filled to a 5-minute hot shower length, so you could hop in for a quick rinse-off if you need it, but if you want a longer luxurious shower, you have to work for it by working out to fill the tank up more before your shower. |

Manual cranking is actually very inefficient. Food is produced in a very energy intensive way. No matter how cleverly you design the pump, you will end up with a larger overall carbon footprint than if you had looked around for an efficient mechanical pump. |

Yes. In fact, walking to the shops does more harm to the environment than taking the car. See link. In this case, the machine is moving a much heavier load than the man and still winning. So you've got almost no chance trying to beat the machine when the machine is lifting the same load. |

The mechanical pump will only use a little gasonline. But a lot of gasoline will be burnt to make the food with enough energy for you to pump manually |
