I must begin by saying that I myself am a fan of the pristine, clean, and minimalistic design of the halfbakery as it currently exists. I am also a fan of our small, but closeknit community of witty, but mostly anonymous individuals.
True, the halfbakery is not for everyone, but it is for me, and
I pretty much like it just the way it is...
What worries me is how few people it is for on a regular, active basis. In a way, this too is a good thing, for it prompts me to take halfbreakeries from time to time in order to achieve various goals in real life. In quite a different way, it is a sad, and unfortunate discovery.
I often feel that we are developing an undesirable idea to annotator ratio. Maybe I've just fallen into the typical trap of believing that my ideas are far more deserving of attention than they truely are. Maybe I just lust after annos in an unhealthy way that would require psychiatric intervention in a sane world...
But maybe the community would be better if we had more people who commented more regularly.
Maybe we should advertise the halfbakery better (or at all?) Maybe we should find some way to put the spark back into it for old bakers who seem to have traipsed off into the sunset never to look back. Maybe we should consider updating the layout in an attemt to attract more users. We do have the bandwidth for such a program, though I doubt we have any real desire to see such a change to the bakery itself.
Maybe I just expect too much, but I'd like to know how the rest of the bakery feels. Hello? Hello? advertise halfbakery

Personally, I think traipsing off into the sunset is a big sign of sanity on the part of whoever does it. |

This is a database of poorly thought-out inventions. It is not a community, other than accidentally. It's not intended to be the center of your social life. Go out and make some friends. |

She means it, too. Even after six(ish) years, all my e-mails to her go straight to her spam folder. |
|

If it weren't for the 20 or 30 people who actually talk to me, I'd *have* to go get a life. Just do what we all do - take a hiatus and come back when you feel refreshed. |

I get the impression that sunset traipsing is over-rated. |

There's a free daily paper in London which has a feature called "Timewaster" where readers recommend websites that you can waste your time at work on. |
|

I've often thought of submitting the 'bakery, but then I decide against it. Flooding the site with morons and trolls would be a bad thing, in my opinion. And yes, I know you've probably considered me a moron or troll at some point. If you've considered me at all. |
|
| |
Ha! How the wheel turns. It wasn't so long ago that the angst was all about there being too many people and too much chat on the 'bakery. |

Hi [ye_river]. I understand your sentiments but what is-is what is. I like the notion of an *accidental community* and the choice of being free to come and go as one pleases. Though [jutta] doesn't want the responsibility of being the head of this community, she is and we love her. How amazing is that? Think of all the amazing things you have ever heard or felt here. It will go on, but always in a different way. |

I heard jutta talking about the bakery on the radio, back in the days. |
|
| |
It was so odd. Sort of like the first time I traisped a pun. |
|
| |
Ah, there's the old turnout I hope for. I guess my other ideas just aren't worth reading. |
|
| |
Even in the successful case where many, many new people join, all with positive contributions... wouldn't you just wind up feeling like you didn't know anyone any more? |
|

Isn't this getting a bit 'Life of Brian'? |

Jutta: "You don't have to hang around this site!" omnes: "We don't have to! We don't have to!"
Jutta: "You should get a life!"
omnes: "Yes, yes! We should get a life!"
etc., etc. |

Hmmm, seems like there's a lot of anno's here. I like this pace anyway. If this was more like a chatboard, I would get hopelessly out of the loop if I took even a day off. With this pace, I can live a real life. Weirdly, most of my real life leads me right back here. |
|

Just because we hang around here doesn't mean we don't have a life, it's just a part of our lives. I agree with what [phoenix] said. |
