Are you talking about clouds? |

Nice idea - reminiscent of the statue in CJ Cherryh's Wave Without A Shore, which seems to change expressions and appearance with the constantly changing light and weather. |

To see the entire picture you'd have to be at a high altitude. You could have a geostationary translucent screen below the shapes for ground viewers. |
|
| |
well for a starter set you could just put objects on transparent poles up between 10-20 foot or so.... a bunch of shapes which at 9am form an eagle... at 12.30 a giraffe, at 1.30 a coiled python, at 3.00 the starbucks logo, etc. etc. |

The shapes are fixed, it's the sun's movement that changes how their shadows interact on the ground. |
|
| |
[edit] bonus points if the fixed objects have definition as well. |
