Limited sources of energy are a cause of national economic woes and international belligerence. A noble goal, of course, is to combat these woes by increasing use of renewable sources of energy (like wind and solar). But along the way, it is also important to be efficient about using the sources of
energy that have already been produced. Which is why I am often disappointed to see large quantities of sugary cakes go to waste after parties in my department's break room. I propose to designate a central cake disposal location in each city (maybe several in larger cities) so that left-over cakes can be collected and fermented into ethanol for use in city buses. This location might contain several bins to allow for separate collection of cakes, brownies, muffins, etc. To increase awareness of this effort, bumper stickers should be produced for buses running on this fuel: "This bus is powered by the skinny people in your office that didn't have a piece of cake."

2. Get the horses to pull the buses |

3. Collect the waste product and use it as fertiliser .... |

Brilliant! Here's a revision: |
|
| |
1. Feed the cake to race horses |
|
| |
2. Collect proceeds from ticket sales from the "extra-fast" horse races (or, don't tell people that your horse has been eating sugar instead of hay, and place a big bet on your horse) |
|
| |
3. Collect the waste product and use it as fertilizer... |
|
| |
4. Use race proceeds (or winnings) to support research in renewable energy |

Or for our Italian Cousins:
1. Feed the cake to horses
2.Collect the waste product and use it as fertiliser
3. Kill and eat the horses |

As well as from a couple of regions in Italy where they pride themselves on it. Damned tasty, too!. |
