Shotgun Sabre
Like a million light sabers flying toward your target! | |
Shotgun shells could be loaded completely with tracer pellets so that the spread could be observed on a high frequency camera in the dark of night. This could aid gunners in evaluating the accuracy of their shots in the dark. Samus's Weapon

pretty sure the 2 concepts of "shotgun" and "night" shouldn't be mixed |
| |
This would be cool ..... bird-scaring cartridges at night are great. [+] |
| |
I agree with FlyingToaster, on the other hand, it would look cool. I thought this would be like the weapon of Samus Aran in SSBB [link] when I clicked on it. I'm not a hunter so I don't think I'm a good judge on this idea. |
| |
Shot-patterns are readily available from ammunition/gun manufacturers... and that's if you're too lazy to test it yourself on paper targets. |
| |
(from experience) tracer ammunition takes awhile to light up; I don't think it'd work effectively on a shotgun. |
| |
I'm not a hunter, but surely hunting at night is a dangerous , possibly illegal activity. |
| |
Huh? If we are going to do something pointless, why get a camera involved? Why not make the tracers visible to the human eye? |
| |
You can buy a flaming shotgun shell already. "A Dragon's Breath usually refers to a zirconium-based pyrotechnic shotgun round. When fired, a gout of flame erupts from the barrel of the gun (up to 30 ft)." Link. |
| |
That may not relate to the idea, but the title doesn't either, really. |
| |
// I don't think it'd work effectively on a shotgun // |

(from experience) They work perfectly well, although usually there is a single tracer pellet in the "centre" of the pattern, and you need modified wads; sometimes the pellet in packed on top of the lowest wad, with a tiny hole in the centre to allow the propellant gases to ignite the tracer (even then they don't always catch). |
| |
There's no problem with making the whole charge out of tracer pellets, although because of their low mass and short burn time the on-target effectiveness would be minimal. There might also be a risk of damage to the bore from corrosive by-products - maybe metal chlorates. |

if you say so; rifle-round tracers that I've used don't light up until 100 yards or so. I can't imagine a serious use for a shotgun "tracer round". |
| |
That's because rifle round traces are usually built into the base of the projectile, whereas shotgun tracers are just a lump of pyro composition; it ignites almost immediately and is visible on leaving the muzzle. |
| |
But they don't last like a base tracer, because of their big surface area. |
| |
From the title I thought this could be a TV show like Knight Rider. |

Shotgun Sabre . . . Johnny Shotgun and his crime-solving (and talking) car Sabre. David Hasslehoff where are you ? ? |

I'm staying out of this one. |

//Bloody pro-vampire lobby// |

after all vampires have done for this country... |
| |
And I still stand by my statement. I don't want to be near somebody in the woods (constant tripping hazard) with a shotgun in pitch black... that's just asking for it. |
| |
What if we are wearing our night vision goggles ? |
| |
"Behind you...behind you....." |
| |
If you are wearing night vision goggles and fire a gun, you are going to see the muzzle flash, and in this idea, the tracers, perhaps a little too well. |
| |
If vampires don't show up in mirrors, do they show up in night vision goggles? |
| |
I read somewhere that if a vampire feeds once a month, and anyone they bite converts to a vampire in one month, then begins feeding once a month, et cetera, the entire world population would be vampires in less than three years. |
| |
Expert's opinions differ: in my research it seems vampires have to do something special to convert their victims; noted noctologist Anne Rice theorizes that the victim must partake of the vampire's blood. |
