Sink Drinks

A device that makes drinks right on your faucet!

This device would look somewhat similar to a Pur filter that clamps onto one's faucet. Instead of the filter, though, there would be a removable canister containing the powdered or liquid concentrate drink.

Whenever one turns on the faucet, a certain amount of the powdered drink is mixed with the water in a chamber similar to a steam turbine. This would acheive two things: 1. The turbulence from hitting all the blades would mix the water with the drink, and 2. The rotation of the miniature "turbine" would also turn an impeller in the canister if it was using powder, to make sure all the powder falls down to the bottom.

I realize that some drinks are stronger than others, so I propose this: A numbered dial would control the amount of drink mix that was dispensed at one time. One one either "calibrate" the setting to their own taste, or follow a pre-numbered setting on the package the mix came in. This feature would also be in the canister. It seems to me that it would be easier to manufacture it this way. Another feature is that you could buy pre-filled canisters in the store, with a mix setting already put in. When the canister gets empty, you just throw it away.

The canisters would be interchangeable so different people can have different drinks.

Can you get powdered water, in case you just want a drink that tastes like water?

I like this. The Tang Tap. +

Perhaps the basic dilution of the drink would be encoded on the drink concentrate cannister by the manufacturer, setting the general strength automatically, but the user would still be able to dial in the exact strength to her liking.

Too messy and weird for what you can do with a normal faucet and a spoon.

You would probably want to use syrop rather than powder, and a refractometer could measure sugar content. +

The garburator in our sink has been broken for about a month now. There's this deep sediment of rotting matter down there, blocking the drain, which gets floated out into the sink whenever anyone runs the tap, leaving a thick festering yellow tidemark around the sink. This substance would certainly kill a man. Some nights, I dream it already has...

If you get onion skins stuck in garbage disposal units you can achieve the same effect.

GW, try using automatic dishwasher powder or Sodium Hydroxide to remove it.

This sounds very much like a non-carbonated version of the soda gun used in most pubs/restaruants these days. So you could easily adapt that technology. By analogy, though, I think you'd be better off using liquid concentrate, rather than powder.

Somehow, I think you would get more mileage out of it if you hooked it up to the fridge. (People seem to go for all sorts of drink-related gadgets provided they are attached to fridges.)

<DrCurry> You're right, I would have never thought about putting it on the fridge, being as I'm still used to the one we have that's literally about 8 years older than me, which, of course, has no ice dispenser.

This could be adapted to mount to your backyard hose too for those summer afternoons by the pool....

And, you could have a "Seltzer-fying" option as well to add bubbles, with a small CO-2 cartridge.

Most straight-up tap water is too gross tasting for enjoyable consumption - so there needs to be a filter or reverse osmosis gadget in there somewhere....

       I love this idea!
