Skyscraper Darts
No, not with whole buildings... just *onto* whole buildings. Sorry. | |
Working in various highrise buildings for the last twenty years, I often look down on the rooftops of smaller buildings.
If a giant target were painted on the rooftop of one of the smaller buildings then a game of darts could be played, by users distributed around the city in other buildings.
Linked
together by a multi-player facility, up to twenty people could take turns firing giant darts, with suction cup heads, at the target from their location. It would even be possible, via a web interface, to play from other cities or other countries.
Best score at the end of each hour lets the winner determine the next game location.
It's quite windy here, today. That means that there may be some "gravity-controlled surprises" for passers-by, on the sidewalks adjacent to the target building. googlemobile dart

Are you going to deploy parachutes to
limit the extent of the surprise at street
level, or does count as part of the
scoring? |
|
| |
Nah, let'em dodge the falling darts. It's too complex to try and fit an altimeter into the things, so they trigger a parachute once they drop below the parapet of the target building. |
|
| |
Wouldn't need and altimeter, assuming the buildings height doesn't change (unlikely) and the target building is itself fairly tall, the parachute could be opened based on a simple time release mechanism. Lawn darts without parachutes would be much cheaper and more fun I think though. |

Give us a shout when the The Aurora is ready for such a game. |
|
| |
wouldn't paint bombs be safer for the people on the ground. water soluble obviously. |
|
| |
Put a whistle thingy on it so passers-by have a chance to dodge. |
|
| |
Sounds dangerous and highly inconsiderate of--of--um...eeeerrrrmm...oh, dammit, bun. |
|
| |
There's also a Goggomobile Dart, [bris]. |
|
| |
Goggomobile? Never heard of those. |
|
| |
why avoid hitting the pedestrians? may I suggest a game of skyscraper darts be started every time a person walks by who fits the criteria of the day. for example red shirt, white clothing, walking a dog. GAME ON! |
|
| |
There was also a Daimler Dart in the late 50s (used the Dodge 2.5 litre hemi V8). Also known as the SP-250. |
|
| |
i thought you were going to come up with the idea to have darts that look like skycrapers. |
|
| |
Or firing skyscrapers as darts. |
|
| |
They could drop lit matches to see if they extinguish before landing in someone's hair. |
|
| |
Will it be called 'murder' if someone threw a dart, it missed, and hit someone? Or would it be 'gross negligence' or 'death by misadventure'? Or it would be plain murder if you threw a dart at someone on purpose and it killed them... |
|
| |
There is a theme park in Perth, Western Australia called Adventure World, and there was a sky ride from one place to another. Me and my friends used to have 'Spitting Games' (sorry, bad joke on Snow Patrol...), and one time I hit someone on the head and he was bald... I kinda feel guilty about that now that I've read this... |
|
| |
Yep, that would be manslaughter. Of course, there would also be a product liability issue. |
|
| |
But "You can't spell manslaughter without laughter" - T-shirt Hell. |
|
| |
Or "funeral" without "fun". |
|
| |
Sorry, brings up *very* negative connotations for me. You can delete that picture. |
|
| |
I have removed the picture, [DC]. It is nothing to do with this sport. No, I didn't look at it. The firewall here blocks it before it gets to users on the network. |

Lawn darts from 1 block away, and 200 feet up... (+) |
|
| |
That's sorta the idea, [CP]. I saw it from anywhere in a three block radius, using old military mortars and big targets. |
|
| |
The idea is equally valid if you were to use 6ft lawn darts and a Volvo, in the middle of a park. |
|
| |
How do you throw Volvos, though? (other than a giant trebuchet?) |
|
| |
I'm sure that 6 ft lawn darts would take someone of Arnold Schwarzaneggar (don't know if it's spelt right, don't particularly care) proportions to lift them, let alone aim. |
|
| |
I'm sure. I intended using giant, motorised catapults. |
|
| |
However, if someone can donate a trebuchet capable of launching Volvos over distances of three city blocks then I can change my idea. |
