Bright orange traffic cones aren't always the most fashionable site accessories; in lieu pairs of boots fitted with low-yield smoke generators, to warn of "danger beyond this point".

Can you expand the range to include the smoking labcoat?

       Smoker no smoking!

Wait, that's the wrong boots too.

I was thinking of some kind of sign, with 5 labcoats, and indicate the level of inadvisability by the number of etc No reason why this can't go heads-up via google glass or whatever.

For example 5 smoking labcoats corresponds to "striking a large pile of fulminate of mercury with a hammer", whereas 1 might only be "attempting to stroke a cat".

I was thinking Ankh-Morpork public works dept.

On the other hand I've done the smoking-labcoat thing (about a 3/10 : grease + sulphuric(iirc) acid)... your idea doesn't strike me as being particularly derivative of this post...

Different colored smoke for different kinds of hazards.

Also could be augmented with specific odors: rotting flesh smell to warn of zombies, etc.
