There seems to be a phenomenon occurring in Western populations at the moment, which is quite unsettling to our society.

The 'generation gap' is widening between young and old.

It should be mandatory for the young to wear the fashions of the old and the old of the young for a week every year.

Likewise, men and women should swap clothes for a week every now and then.

This will have the effect of promoting tolerance and reducing not only ageism, but the incidence of a few gender issues as well.

For those of you familiar with him, try to imagine AfroAssault wearing a polyester, floral print frock over support hose, petticoat, girdle and 42F brassiere. Or me, for that matter.

Annotation:

(wipes barf off keyboard) *Ahem*. I don't know about that last paragraph, but there's a point in there somewhere. My snarfygirlfriend is irresistable, to me, in this one really "grandma"-type housecoat she has. (I have a feeling "housecoat " is a USA-ian term. It refers to a rather frumpy, shapeless thing a woman might wear at home, perhaps one step up in formality from a bathrobe.) In any case, it's completely drab and un-sexy, but when she puts it on it drives me nuts!

Hard to get embarrased about it after the original post...
snarfyguy, Nov 24 2001

       Been reading Vonnegut lately, UB?
bristolz, Nov 24 2001

You stole my 8x10 wallet print, didn't you?
AfroAssault, Nov 24 2001

personally, when just being casual around the house, I wear nothing but a hint of diesel oil.
po, Nov 24 2001

This was something I suggested to [po] that she post. She seemed to think I wouldn't be game to do it... viola!
UnaBubba, Nov 24 2001

variety is the spice of life and viola is a type of pansy!
po, Nov 24 2001

Viola-tion is a whole different mess.

Diesel means something else entirely in my country.

       [bristolz], no?
UnaBubba, Nov 24 2001

[UB] just looked it up - I will pass on that one.
po, Nov 24 2001

       Different type of 'pansy'.
UnaBubba, Nov 24 2001

[UB]: Harrison Bergeron, Vonnegut's tale of a society where everyone was forced to be "equal." Those deemed smart had to wear audio squealers in their ears to prevent coherent thinking, etc. I flashed on it upon reading your words here. By "flash" I mean that I suddenly recalled a thought or memory.
bristolz, Nov 24 2001

[bristolz] please don't flash , you will wake the undead
po, Nov 24 2001

Actually, I disagree with UnaBubba that the generation gap is ever-growing. Nowadays, far more than 20 or 30 years ago, the young and the not so young share similar tastes in music and clothes. With 40-year-olds listening to Britney Spears and riding scooters; jeans or combats on everyone from 5 to 75; casualwear more and more universal; pop culture and trash TV everywhere; the old are getting younger and the younger are getting more clued up. I think we're achieving this without transvestitism, fun as that is.
pottedstu, Nov 24 2001

po might like to add an extra comma to her last annotation, after "flash", or it could be taken as being very offensive to bristolz. Unless that was the intention?
pottedstu, Nov 24 2001

would not dream of offending [bristolz] I will amend as best I can. thank you.
po, Nov 24 2001

Mine eyes have seen the gory
thumbwax, Nov 24 2001

This is not a flash site.

[Peter], that would be a case of things finding their own level.
UnaBubba, Nov 25 2001

And would be awful as a Flash site.
bristolz, Nov 25 2001

That's sort of what I alluded to, in a clumsy, double-entendre kind of way.
UnaBubba, Nov 25 2001

Am I the only one still trying to imagine AfroAssault wearing UnaBubba?
daruma, Nov 26 2001

       I certainly hope so.
DrBob, Nov 26 2001

       Thank you [daruma]. Well spotted.
UnaBubba, Nov 27 2001

UnaBubba, Nov 27 2001

you are the one doing the siring around here
po, Nov 27 2001

But why would I want to be a croissant?
barnzenen, Nov 27 2001

because you want to have good buns?

cheers [UnaBubba] -- it was a pedants anonymous moment, to be sure.
daruma, Nov 27 2001

And missed its mark, it would seem.
UnaBubba, Nov 30 2001

quality sites like this... why i love hb...*grin*

barnzenen: don't think you'd have much choice, if you were bread from one (maybe that's what happens from UB siring something?)...
Urania, Nov 30 2001

bristolz, Dec 01 2001

Urania, Dec 02 2001

I think I'm getting a yeast infection in my socially levelling lingerie.
daruma, Dec 03 2001

*grin* glad someone else saw fit to, um, rise to the occasion :)
Urania, Dec 03 2001

I don't want to wear my wife's clothes... equality is highly overrated.
PauloSargaco, Dec 21 2007

       This social equality is R-rated.
