Spray Sushi
Some of the flavour, all of the calories.

With the rise and rise of the popularity of sushi in the Western world, the ultimate bachelor entertainment pack is finally here.

Raw fish goes off pretty quickly, but not so Spray Sushi. With its base units made of UHT-treated, stabilised starches it has a refrigerated shelflife of up to 3 years, or 2 months, covered, at room temperature.

To make a piece it's a simple matter to select the right can from the dozen that make up Spray Sushi, and apply to a base. Using the moulds supplied, press out a piece in the shape of a classic sushi like Makajiki (Blue Marlin), put it on the plastic sheet supplied and give it a brief spray from can No. 4. Presto! Realistic-looking 'sushi', with the 'right' flavour.

When you get a little better at it you can mix colours and flavours and try striping effects, like on a piece of tuna.

For the kitchen freak who has to have everything, but can't really cook all that well there will be specialty and upgrade packs available at key dates (Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day, Christmas), as well as sets of specialty moulds.

It's a slab of processed starch sprayed with artificial fish flavouring?

angel, Nov 27 2002

A preshaped slab, though that could be taken care of with the addition of a set of moulds... and a number of differently flavoured and coloured sprays, to make an array of different sushi.

Can real sushi be frozen for storage?

Mayfly, Nov 27 2002

Rice doesn't do too well, frozen.

It's several variously-shaped slabs of processed starch sprayed with a variety of artificial fish flavourings?

I'd give this a try, but I don't think it would be much of a substitute for the real thing; like having a McDonalds, when what you really want is food.

Yes angel, like a human being is basically a mobile bag of interconnected bacteria.

8/7, that's the point. It's the DIY fast food of the sushi world.

I think that the spray simply imparts flavour and colour to the starch substrate.

Exactly. Foam? Spray paint isn't all that foamy, at least in this hemisphere.
