Fruit comes in different , random sizes. I suggest square fruit - which would be both more space efficient and open to industry standardisation.

It'd get kind of dangerous to throw it at people, what with the sharp edges and all.

Reminds me of one of those stupid little poems :

To market to market went my brother Jim,
Somebody threw a tomato at him,
Tomatoes are soft, and don't bruise the skin,
But this one killed Jim - it was wrapped in a tin.

       Oh! the humour...

       a "lifeless" limerick indeed, Detly...
absterge, Jan 15 2001

Sorry, that ain't a limerick. A limerick's rhyme scheme is AABBA. You've got AABAB. Nevertheless, it's a fine bit of verse in its own right.

Actually, this idea was primitively baked by George Stevenson, in the form of the cucumber tube. it straightens out cucumbers into the long thin shapes we see today. Before the cucumber tube cucumbers were grwon bent, much like a banana.

You could grill square fruits on a cubical barbecue.
