Star Wars: Episode 2 Love Ballad

A successful convention in cinema is the use of a specially commissioned love ballad to play in movies with romantic content ("romantic content" sometimes being marginal i.e. Con Air). Playing of the ballad during the film or instrumental snippets could be used to signify and intensify the attraction and love between two characters in a film. Though most of the time it is used to sell the movie as a "date flick" and usually the song is a huge hit and gets played at dances and proms all across the world.

In James Cameron-esque fashion, George Lucas has mentioned that along with all the Jedi battles and ass kicking, Star Wars: Episode 2 will be a love story with a romance between Anakin (Hayden Christian) and Padme (Natalie Portman). With Episode 1's "Duel of Fates" being too classical for most people's pop music tastes, this whole romance angle could allow a mainstream sounding love song to be somehow incorporated into the movie. Along with signifying the romance as mentioned above, the ballad could be used to "humanise" the characters, in that they're not just a Jedi Knight and an interstellar dignitary who are the parents of the galaxy's most influencial twins, but two people in love who have a "song". Even John Williams could help out with some string arrangements.

Plus, the movie is a big action blockbuster, and songs from blockbusters have often done quite well, as seen with Top Gun, Costner's Robin Hood and of course Titanic. And song tie-ins don't tend to be spectacular failures such as fast food tie-ins.

One thing though if this somehow gets in the oven; if they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas, they should try to refrain from using Luke's Theme with lyrics slapped onto it.

Star Wars Holiday Special http://www.swdataba...swd/hs/holiday.html
There is no evidence to prove that Han got Leia drunk and made her sing the theme from Star Wars. Also featuring the first appearance of Boba Fett! [mrkillboy, Jun 26 2001, last modified Oct 04 2004]

I thought the only place the "hit song" and on-screen appearance of the actors coincide is in that horrible symbiosis of a music video. Typically, the movie only plays the song over the credits, though there might be a toned-down instrumental version.

There is a rumoured "quiet" moment that Anakin and Padme share in a field on Naboo, so i'd put an instrumental there or maybe a toned down version of the song i.e. the scene in the field between Affleck and Tyler in Armageddon.

Since George Lucus has already given Episode II an incredibly tacky name (Attack of the Clones), how about a love balad to suit?

CLONE OF MY OWN (to Home on the Range)

Oh, give me a clone
Of my own flesh and bone
With the Y chromosome changed to X.
And when she is grown,
My very own clone,
We'll be of the opposite sex.

Chorus:
Clone, clone of my own,
With the Y chromosome changed to X.
And when we're alone,
Since her mind is my own,
She'll be thinking of nothing but sex.

The instrumental love theme is beautiful enough. No need to pander to the lowest musical denominator.
