In an effort to stop overpopulation,
unwanted pregnancies,
overcorwded
classrooms, single welfare moms,
environmental degredation, urban
sprawl, and every other social ill
that
stems from unchecked breeding,
the
government should:
1) Perform a cost-benefit analysis
to
determine
how much money it costs
on average to raise a child- not just
for the family, but in tax dollars the
state must spend on schooling,
healthcare, etc.
2) Offer citizens an outright cash
payment or tax credit based on this
'golden number' to have a
vasectomy
or tubal ligation and never breed.
3) Get rid of 'child tax credits' for
families with children. These kids
use
up public resources going to
school,
why should the parents then get an
additional tax break?
4) Anyone who goes on welfare
must
go on birth control (preferably a
depo
shot) to ensure they do not get
pregnant while subsisting on public
tax dollars.
5) Make the adoption process a lot
easier. It is absolutely ridiculous
how
hard it is to adopt a child in the
United States. It is sad that people
have to go to foreign countries to
adopt a child when there are plenty
of unwanted kids here...
This is a modest proposal from
someone is angered by the fact that
some species are numbered in the
single digits, and ours is in the
billions with no signs of stopping... Article dated January 31, 1994

Quite apart from the fact that without children the human race would die out (which, admittedly, some days would seem like a good thing), the idea that all of life has to meet some cost-benefit analysis is so morally repugnant (to me) that it makes me want to turn socialist straight away. |

Allowing the state to intervene in this way //Anyone who goes on welfare...// is opening the flood gates to "Anyone who doesn't agree with the government's policy..." or "Anyone who isn't directly related to el presidente ..." Allowing the government to directly decide innocent people's personal lives is a very bad idea. |

There was a private foundation which paid drug addicts to get sterilized. There was some controversy over it. |

Planned Parenthood is subsidized. I think. |

hehehe. I wonder if that reference was intended. If so, this is funny, if not then well, the ACLU will eat your soul. [see link] |

As much as I like some parts of this idea, I have to give it a reluctant fishbone for #4. |

I am pretty sure forced sterilization actually happened in India as well. Not too well received was it. |
