Especially useful for MP3-based music ringtones: successive rings start off from where the last one finished.
This way, if you're away from your desk and it keeps ringing, at least everyone else in the office gets the experience of hearing the whole song, rather than the first two and a half bars
again and again. [link]

But to do this, you'd have to download each part of the song separately, wouldn't you? Why not simply make the ringtones longer? |
|
| |
Many MP3 (downloaded) ringtones are more or less the whole song - the problem is that phones divert to voicemail well before the whole ringtone is heard. It would just need to remember where it had got to in the song when it stopped ringing... and start again from there. |

An extension: you could have ringtones which were read stories (Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter anyone?). You hear a new bit of the story every time someone calls you. The more popular you are the quicker you get through the tale. |

Bunned it, both for the idea and the idea in that anno. |

Bunning it solely for the anno idea. Post that, and I'll bun it again. |

.....go ahead.....keep ringing..... I can listen to this all day.... *sigh* I love it when my boss calls..... |

The same 2.5 bars on someone else's unattended phone have often got on my nerves. [+] |

Exceedingly good idea, should be implemented with immediacy. It will also have the interesting social side-effect that depending how far through a song your phone rings, belies how often or not you get called. If, of an evening, your phone simply plays an intro, you could always make up the excuse that it's already looped round a few times that day. Then definitely nobody will believe you. |
