Stringball
A game played with a giant ball of string. | |
Stringball resembles soccer, except the ball is one meter in diameter, and is very heavy, being solid string. One end is tied to a peg, and as the game progresses, the stringball unwinds. As it slowly shrinks, the game goes faster and faster until no more ball.
Game over.

The two teams line up, along their goal lines. At a whistle they rush forward, attempting to roll the ball of string over the opposition's goal line. |

When play breaks down, or a penalty is awarded, the string is pegged to that point and each team retreats to a nominal distance (say, 10metres). Whistle goes and they start pushing again. |

A point for each metre gained, 10 points for crossing the goal line. Not much chance of a draw, that way. |

Wasn't it Charles Fort? This game would be much improved if it was raining frogs or fish, during play. |

Goals are just two sets of poles on either side of the field. A goal is made not just by kicking the ball through the poles, but keeping the string through the poles. Therefore, you can un-score a goal. Forgetting the score is no longer an issue - just count the number of strings between each set of poles at the end of the game. |
