Suction Wrap
Like bubble wrap, but with little suction cups instead of balloons. | |

This came up in the same search

Squid Cloth
Squid_20Cloth Suction Wrap has merit. On the other hand, Squid Cloth was for people to wear, which was pointless and silly. There's a halfwarehouse full of that. [Amos Kito, Jan 28 2008, last modified Feb 01 2008]

Two questions (1) why not? and (2) why? |
|
| |
OK, I sort of see the point. But the suction
cups will have to be springy enough to
suck, and I think that's going to make it
expensive to make. |
|
| |
Oh, cost is merely a detail. I see this as being very useful to stop packages from moving too much during transit. Very useful for expensive, fragile items. |
|
| |
Hmmm. OK, so you wrap your package,
and it's like the bubble-wrap is glued to it,
yes? Well, fair enough. I'm not sure how
much that would help, but it might. |
|
| |
They'd also stick to each other and hard surfaces. It should prevent unnecessary movement. |
|
| |
Wait, does this have suction cups on BOTH sides of the plastic, or just one side? |
|
| |
Also, are both sides see-through? |
|
| |
They make bath mats like this, with little suction cups all over the bottom. So the technology is out there. |
|
| |
You find this idea preventing granny from slipping in the shower. |
|
| |
Both sides have suction cups, as I see it. Bath mats are single-sided, in my experience. |
|
| |
I get that suction cups would hold the wrap to the item, but I doubt they would hold the item in place. Vans/trucks are usually lined wth wood or carpet, so what is it doing again? If it just holding to the item, I think you'd still want bubbles on one side for paddng. |
|
| |
Maybe vans where you are have linings like that... here they have painted metal interiors. |
|
| |
OK, then you get my bun(+). Aren't they dangerous if your boots are wet? The only bare metal surface that I've walked on was in my friend's dump truck that was scary slippery with just a little water. In any case, the advantage of having items stuck to the floor on their own would have huge advantages. |
|
| |
//are both sides see-through?// heh.
//Bath mats are single-sided// If both sides were suckered, granny wouldn't get out of the bath. Ever. |
|
| |
I doubt if a bath mat would be flexible enough to be considered a 'wrap.' I see that as your biggest hurdle--how to have a wrapping that is thin and flexible yet have enough stiffness to support the shape of a suction cup which has little inherent shape strength. |
|
| |
If the idea is to just be able to hold stuff down, don't make it a wrap, make it a bed/van liner. Glue the bath mats upside down in the van and then just place the items down. The only bummer would be getting them out. Maybe a rod that would torque or valve all the suckers in a row to cause them to release. |
|
| |
Or just squirt in a few cans of builders'
foam after loading the van, then have fun
excavating the items at the destination. |
