Rubber bullets, unfortunately, are nowhere near as friendly as people seem to think. They break legs, ribs and occasionally, kill.
The SBG is more benign, but far more frightening. With a cyclic rate of fire of 800 rounds per minute it gets an awful lot of projectiles in the air, at once. It's
also very useful for shooting around corners... just aim at the wall opposite and rely on bounce to do the rest.
Operators wear a backpack full of balls, fed to the gun by a hose, and a large canister of CO2. Just aim, pull the trigger and wave around. It'll clear a crowded street in under 30 seconds.
Later, kids can safely play with spent ammunition.
Caution: Do not fire at a vertical surface if your aimpoint is on a surface perpendicular to your position.

What, you can carry a backpack/cartridge on your back carrying 400 balls? |

I had this discussion with a paintball fanatic at a site where I was consulting. We were trying to come up with something non-lethal, yet convincing to chase off the coyotes from his yard. |

Our conclusion was that the drag from sticky surface of the "super ball" silicone rubber projectile might considerably reduce the muzzle velocity. Might need some lubrication. |

I did manage to source some gum balls very close to the right diameter. Don't know if he ever tried them. It was time for me to move on to the next job. |

Size? Around 20mm, or 3/4in, diameter. |

I figure the ammunition loadout at around 1,000 rounds. Make 1 in 6 paint, for later identification of miscreants. |

I would love to see this as a weapon in Doom III. Bullets bouncing down corridors would be cool. |

The adults leave the scene. Windows are broken for miles around as the balls continue to bounce from street to street.
